Wet Dog - Dog Shampoo-Bathing Your Dog

Bathing is the last thing your dog wants to happen, whether it is the summer season or winters, and you are a lucky chap if you have a dog who loves bathing and playing with water. No matter how much they dislike it, frequent bathing is very essential for your furry friends and that becomes a huge task for you as a pet parent.

Taking extra care of your pet’s fur is very important, and different dogs need different kinds of care when it comes to protecting their skin and fur.

Now the big question is, for new pet parents, ‘How to bathe my dog?’

Well it is definitely not an easy task, but once you get a hold of it you can easily make your pooches comfortable while taking a bath. Before you start, you need to find the best dog shampoo for your furry baby, which suits their fur type. If your dog is facing a fungal infection or ticks, you might go for an Anti-Fungal Shampoo or an Anti Tick Dog Shampoo

Once you’ve chosen the right shampoo for your dog, it’s time to choose the right place to bathe them. You can bathe your dog in the sink, if he is a tiny one. You can take him to your bathtub, if you have one. If none of the above works for you and your furry friend, you can take them under the shower and bathe them over there. There are a lot of doggy tubs also available which you can place in your garden on a pleasant day. Those really help when your dog is a water lover.

You need to plan ahead when you’re planning to bathe your dog. Here are a few steps that you should keep in mind for the D-Day.

  1. Brush their fur before the bath: Brushing their fur before giving them a bath can help avoid tangles in their hair which cause irritation. Give them a nice brush massage before giving them a bath, so this way their fur will be ready and they will get all happy and calm with the massage.
  2. Use Lukewarm Water: Dogs do not have the same skin as humans, and cannot tolerate extreme conditions of water. It is always preferable to give them a bath with lukewarm water, neither too hot nor too cold.
  3. Keep talking to them: While you are giving them a bath, you need to keep talking to them with the words they understand the most. Talk about giving them treats after the bath, taking them for a walk outside, talk about their other furry friends, and other happy words which they understand. This will distract them from the water and they will remain calm.
  4. Use the best dog shampoo: Take the dog shampoo which you have found suitable to your dog’s fur, after consulting their vet, and make a lather all over their body and massage them nicely, while continuing to calmly talk to them.
  5. Rise the fur properly: Once you have made a lather with the shampoo, you need to wash it all off. Make sure you rinse the whole fur and do not leave any traces of the shampoo on your dog’s body. You can even repeat the rising process twice or thrice to be fully sure.
  6. Dry the fur: To dry your dog’s fur, you either leave them to get air dried, if it’s a pleasant and sunny day, or you can use a blow dryer to dry it out. Drying their fur with a blow dryer is a good option for winters because you do not want your dog to catch a cold.
  7. Reward them for being a Good Boy: Once they are all dried up, reward them with their favourite food and treats for being good and calm throughout the whole process. Always make sure you do not scold them during the bathing process and be calm and patient with them, because taking a bath is not the same for dogs as it is for us humans.

Even though bathing your dog is hectic and a big task, at the end of it you absolutely love it because you just spent a lot of time grooming them and talking to them. If in case bathing them looks really tough for you and you think that you can not do it right, you should always go to a professional groomer. They know what they are doing and have a long experience in this field. They will know how to calm your dog down and give them a happy and healthy bath.
